Trio to be Honored at 13th Annual Seton Scholarship Dinner
A devoted teacher and a valuable Catholic education can have such a positive impact on a student’s life. I know this firsthand; my Catholic education left an indelible impression on me. I will never forget the importance of loving thy neighbor while appreciating friendships, diversity, and community. The commitment of those involved in our Catholic school education has been known for years. Recognizing the exceptional work of our educators, in 2010, Bishop Cote established the Most Reverend Michael R. Cote, D.D. Award for Contributions to Catholic Education in the Dio...

In for a Treat-A Message of Hope and Appreciation
2021 ACA Video with Bishop Cote  Throughout this pandemic, I have had the pleasure of being able to meet with my boss, Bishop Cote, on a regular basis. I cannot begin to tell you how much I’ve treasured these meetings. We of course talked about my job responsibilities in the Development Office, how our Annual Catholic Appeal, Catholic Foundation, and planned giving efforts were doing amidst so much uncertainty and such an increase in the needs of those in our communities. Although he always gave me productive advice and support, it was Bishop Cote’s ...

Outside Gift Benefits Office of Faith Events
Occasionally, we have the great fortune to receive gifts from people who are not members of our diocese. This was the case on August 4, when Robert N. Roach (Nick), chief executive officer of The Chemical Company of Jamestown, Rhode Island and his daughter, Liza Roach, the youth and young adult minister for the Diocese of Norwich Office of Faith Events, gave Bishop Cote a $10,000 check. This was not the first time that the Roach family gifted their money across state lines. In 2018, they established the Roach Family Endowment to support the Diocesan Office of Faith Event...

June is 'Leave a Legacy Month' - What Will Your Legacy Be?
The pandemic we are all experiencing together has introduced a new sense of busy into our lives. We are now faced with balancing working from home, schooling our kids, shopping and preparing meals in the safest way possible, keeping our home virus-free and looking out for our “at risk” family and community members who need help getting food and supplies. On top of these day to day activities, we have the added stress of worrying about the health of our loved ones. During this challenging time, our greatest source of love and guidance is as always, our Savior,...

Amber Grace Smith's Lasting Gift
Few of us know the pain of losing a child. As a parent of three, I cannot imagine having to send one of them home to be with God, yet I know that every year, thousands of parents fight through the pain of just that as childhood cancer claims another life. In all my life, I have never met a more faith filled family than the family of Matt and Caron Smith, who endured such a tragedy in December 2018. The Smiths’ second youngest child, Amber Grace Smith, became sick with a rare brain cancer, glioblastoma multiforme, when she was only 6 years old. After being hospitali...

Kind Hearts Fuel Catholic Foundation Growth
By Mary Ellen Mahoney If the Catholic Foundation had ears, they would be ringing! More and more often people are discussing the Catholic Foundation as being a good place to donate some of their hard-earned money. During 2019, the Catholic Foundation has added new endowments at a very steady pace. People realize that by establishing an endowment within the Catholic Foundation, they can ensure that their favorite parish, school or diocesan ministry will receive financial support long after they have moved on to a better life with Jesus. Potential donors also understand...
