Mrs. Mary Ellen Mahoney was recently appointed as Executive Director of the Office of Development by the Most Reverend Michael R. Cote, D.D., Bishop of Norwich.

Mary Ellen is not a new addition to the Office of Development. For over 5 years she has assisted people in planned giving and establishing endowments as Development Manager-Major Gifts.

Mary Ellen graduated from St. Bernard High School, Uncasville and went on to receive her B.A. with honors, magna cum laude from Brown University and Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from Boston College Law School. Her prior work history includes in part, working as an attorney at Hebb & Gitlin, assistant general counsel at Colt's Manufacturing and corporate counsel at Pfizer. “My law degree and experience in the Development Office will continue to be an asset to me. Of all my jobs, working for Bishop Cote and with the entire Diocesan team has been my greatest joy.”

Susan Underhill, an 18-year employee of the Development Office had this to say, “I have worked with a number of directors and they all have been compassionate, enthusiastic and faith-filled. In addition to those traits, Mary Ellen is extremely articulate and intelligent, with the unique ability to learn about a situation quickly and find a way to make it better.”

We asked Mary Ellen if we can expect anything new in Development. "One of my first tasks will be to meet with each of our pastors to find out how our office can best assist them and their parishes. I want to be a valued resource to each pastor and parish."

Mary Ellen and John, her husband of 29 years, are parishioners of St. Andrew Parish in Colchester. They have 3 grown children, David, Katie and Megan.
