The Catholic Foundation of the Diocese of Norwich Inc. is pleased to announce the two 2025 recipients of the Rev. Richard F. Roughan Scholarships: Peter Stchur IV, son of Peter and Mary Anne Stchur of Waterford, and Gavin Polcaro, son of Anthony and JoHanna Polcaro of Waterford. Peter is entering her sophomore year at the University of Hartford, where he is majoring in civil engineering. Gavin is beginning his freshman year at Western Connecticut State University, where he plans to study finance.

Every year, two students are selected by the Foundation to receive $5,000 each as Rev. Roughan Scholarship recipients. Reverend Roughan was a long-time pastor at St. Paul Church in Waterford and established the scholarship through his Will. To be considered for this scholarship, a student must be a member of St. Paul Church and complete an essay entitled, “Why My Faith is Important to Me.” 

Both recipients are very appreciative of their awards. Peter shared, "I'm profoundly thankful to have been selected for the Rev. Roughan Scholarship. This opportunity not only recognizes my academic efforts but also strengthens my commitment to pursue my goals while keeping my faith in everything I do, knowing it will guide me throughout my life."  Gavin noted, “Receiving the Rev. Roughan Scholarship fills me with great joy and gratitude. It’s an incredible honor that reflects my deep commitment to following Christ, and I’m proud to be recognized for living out those values.”
